Magen David Adom In Israel
Magen David Adom saves thousands of lives by responding to over 800,000 calls each year. That’s one call every minute.
From road accidents, births and everyday emergencies to terror attacks, Magen David Adom is at the scene within eight minutes. Magen David Adom is Israel’s only national medical emergency response service, providing expert emergency treatment to those in need.
For each Magen David Adom employee there are another 10 highly trained volunteers – a staggering 17,000 who give their time and immense expertise for free, making it Israel’s largest volunteer organisation. Employees and volunteers come from all sectors of Israeli society: from ultra-Orthodox to secular Jews, Arabs, Christians and Druze.
Magen David Adom has a fleet of 1,094 ambulances stationed at 143 stations across the length and breadth of Israel, while 33 bloodmobiles collect essential blood supplies from donors across the country.

Unlike the UK, Israel has never had a Government-run medical emergency and ambulance service. Instead, Friends of Magen David Adom in 17 countries around the world have always supported Magen David Adom, ensuring that the State is able to dedicate more of its own resources towards other critical areas including defence and security.
Magen David Adom UK plays a vital support role for Magen David Adom in Israel. Since its foundation in 1949, the British Friends have helped to fund a range of development projects including the building of new stations, supplying ambulances and specialist Mobile Intensive Care Units, and donating other vital medical supplies.

Beyond The Call Of Duty
For over 80 years, Magen David Adom in Israel has been providing emergency medical services to the citizens of Israel. Although saving lives is its primary role, Magen David Adom also plays an integral part in many other activities offering humanitarian aid and assistance within Israel and abroad, functioning as the Israeli Red Cross Society.
MDA’s life-saving work knows no boundaries as recent missions to Haiti, Indonesia, Jordan and the Philippines illustrate. MDA is often in places where Israel has no formal ties but, as a result of its role in the International Red Cross movement, places where our expertise and medical aid is urgently required.
